Brief Warning

If you abhor profanities, especially f-bombs, you will want to pass on this series.

I've read all of book 1 and most of book 2 of this series. For me, I wish I had taken a break after Book 1 and have concluded that this is a series best appreciated one book at a time, rather than binge-reading.

Quick & Dirty Highlights

This series of four books set in modern times with terrorism as its backdrop, begins with a plausible setting and gripped me ferociously. Despite a great start, it did tend to slow down as I got further into the first novel, which is when I became acutely aware of the excessive use of profanities.

Mind you, language is key to setting the scene. Further, swearing has become more and more common with each passing year. Still, f-bombs and flavoring agents in food dishes having something in common...less is more.

Length: Print, 574 pages.

Target Audience/Genre: Thriller - Action-Adventure.

Q - How was this book obtained?
A - Bought on Amazon.

Q - Is this a book that I can read without having to read others first?
A – Yes.

Q - Are there a lot of typos/misspellings, grammatical errors or other editing failures?
A – No, the editing is good in this respect.

Q - Is this a fast, easy read or is it more of a leisure read?
A – Each of the four books is a fairly fast read.

Q - What sort of language does this writer use to amplify the points made?
A – Adult Language with a great number and wide variety of expletives. Nearly 200 f-bombs, which leads me to presume the author found a bargain, B1G1 sale for f-bombs.

Q - What age group is this suitable for?
A - If this were a film it would be rated PG-17 for language.

Q - My biggest pleasure or disappointment?
A - I would like to have seen better character development rather than the degree of stereotyping that the author depended on. Still, it IS a good story in which I was able to suspend disbelief.

I’ve included a small excerpt below, so readers can peruse the style of presentation utilized by the author.

EXCERPT [Taken from Chapter 57 of Book 1]

'...Superiors from both FBI and CIA were present. Structure, especially at the FBI, had been disrupted, and the hierarchy was in flux, all parties uncomfortable and unsure how to proceed. But most significantly, the presence of high-ranking officers from the Air Force gave a certain gravity and sense of expectation to the meeting. Something was happening, beyond the mess of the last few weeks. Savas waited and observed.

Bryant cleared his throat and gazed around the room. “I won’t try to sugarcoat anything for you. We’ve been through fire since this entire investigation began. We’ve watched some damn good agents die, and we’ve worked our asses off to get to the core of this case, one that’s part of something so big it’s shaking up the world. What I’m here to tell you now, what these representatives from the Air Force are here to tell you, is that it’s all about to get a good bit worse.” He gestured toward the soldiers. “Gentlemen?”

The two officers sat together at one end of the table. They were in full uniform. Dress uniform , Savas noted. They had a set of folders in front of them but spoke without consulting the papers within them.

"Thank you, Agent Bryant. We haven’t had time to get to know all your staff, but what we have to say must be said quickly, and we’re needed back at headquarters to continue our end of the investigation. We’ll be available to any of you to work on this.” The man looked over his audience and continued. “In August of last year, a highly irregular event took place at an Air Force base in North Dakota. Cruise missiles were loaded on a plane scheduled to fly to Louisiana. That is a common event, transferring weapons between bases. On this day, however, several critical protocols were not followed, and airmen unintentionally loaded missiles with nuclear payloads.”

Murmurs erupted around the table. “Please,” interjected the Air Force man, “let me continue. I'll answer questions afterward.” He exhaled slowly. “For a period of thirty-six hours, these missiles were not reported as missing and weren't secured, as is customary for nuclear weapons. Some of you may remember a press conference last year about the incident.” “Sure,” said Savas. “But they said that the weapons had been accounted for, never left the hands of U.S. airmen.”

There was an uncomfortable silence. The soldier continued tensely, “That statement was not factual.”

Miller sat forward. He had made a significant recovery since the shooting, but the damage to his shoulder had left him with residual pain. Miller in a gruff mood wasn't a pleasant thing. “Not factual ? You mean a lie? Don’t tell me that these missiles took a walk.”

The soldier looked Miller directly in the eye. “That’s exactly what I’m here to tell you.”

Miller exhaled. “ Jesus. ”

"A decision was made to keep this information top secret, and, until recently, even our team investigating the incident was kept ignorant of this fact.” The soldier glared around the room, revealing a poorly concealed anger “The operative term is missile , in point of fact. Singular. One cruise missile was unaccounted for.”

Savas felt sick. “And let me guess, or you wouldn’t be here: those devils at Mjolnir have it?”

The military man glanced uncomfortably around the table. “Yes, it appears that is indeed the case. Major Rivers, would you like to take it from here?”

Miller practically exploded. “Hold on a minute! Let me...'

Bottom Line:

Despite the commonly used stereotypes, and the excessive profanities, this is a good series of books.

Four stars out of five.

INTEL 1 Omnibus Books 14 eBook Erec Stebbins Reviews

Spell binding, one didn’t know what to expect when you start, and then to finish, with the thought it could be. The writing is down to earth, the characters seem real, you are there for the meetings. You have espionage, threats, political involments, as though it was current headlines.
Well done, a powerful story.
I gave this series a 5 Star rating because of the total credibility and Dynamics of the stories. Tom Clancy,Dan Brown..move over. This author rips the story out of current headlines, conspiracy theories, economic for casts, political theory, and definitely cyber attacks and concerns. He does point out our frailty as a civilization very well. Can you here the warning from the work of fiction? Time will tell!
Intel 1 is an organization one would hope that the US Government currently has in place - because without a group like them, we are definitely less safe in today's world.
Not your standard group of heroes, no super powers, but a collection of people whom carry their own emotional baggage in the pursuit of protecting NYC, the US, and the world from plunging into chaos. While not always successful, you just *know* if they are involved in a case, you can believe that they will carry out to their mission to serve and protect to their last breaths.
I didn't finish the first book because I lost patience trying to follow the scenario. I read books 2 and 3, but by the 4th book I had enough of destruction, doom and gloom and killing and blood and gore and didn't bother. The technology was interesting, but I found the whole concept of destroying the world implausible.
The plot of this series is excellent, and well scripted. The action jumps from point to point but all comes together at a point then branches again, when you think the solution has been figured out, there is another twist to the story . I did not want to put it down but I had to sleep sometime.
I highly recommend this book to those who like technology intrigue as well a very well written action book
The goal of INTEL, as a special division of Homeland Security is to monitor the nefarious in government, but it all goes south in a hurry. Trusted agents are murdered. A priest is caught up in the troubles when he seeks to know why his brother was sacrificed. The thriller continues in four volumes, with the game getting more treacherous as each novel moves along. Ultimately a pair of intrepid investigators, outed by the government and accused of heinous crimes, are left as the only ones able to bring a conclusion to the treachery. This is a must read series, a page turner as it is sometimes said of well written, high action stories.
Fast-paced thriller about shadowy groups who control the world. What starts off with a lone hacker causing enormous destruction in the world of finance, eventually reveals the hacker to be involved in a crusade to destroy this shadowy group of faceless people.

A group of committed FBI agents from a small yet effective team are all that stands between chaos and order. They are falsely accused, tortured, brought to the brink of death. At each critical moment, there is an intervention, and this drives the narrative to its inexorable end. Include two people who had been accused of high treason, but fighting for the very people that accused and found them guilty, and the various strands are cleverly brought together to an explosive climax.

You can't put it down. You continually want to see what happens next, how the plot unfolds. You silently urge the good guys on, and the tension builds with each foray into the nether world of faceless power groups. Crisp, taut with little diversion brings the story to a satisfying end, but just a hint of more problems in the future.
